Do You Remember The First Time?
One of the more positive things to have come about from this pandemic has been the ideas and projects that’ve resulted from people’s unexpected spare time - and my creative mates have been coming up with some really good stuff.
One such project is a podcast run by my good pals Gordon and Woody, called Do You Remember The First Time? - and the premise of the podcast is to invite guests along to discuss the first gig and the first festival that they attended.
Gordon and Woody were kind enough to invite me along for a chat, and I massively enjoyed wandering down memory lane and thinking back to some of the shows that I (and Gordon, apparently!) went to as a teenager, and remembering why I decided to start working in this industry in the first place.
It was also really interesting to look back at the festival line ups and music landscape of the 2000s in relation to the work that I do around gender equality, in particular the Keychange project - and to be reminded of how few opportunities women musicians have historically had in live music, and how important it is to continue working to change that situation.
Views are all my own - hope you’ll take a bit of time to tune in, and to dig into the podcast’s archive too, as they’ve had some excellent people take part so far.
