Keychange Pledge Action Plan
It's been a busy week for Keychange - not only did we host all 70+ of our 2023 participants for a 2 day network meet-up in Brussels this week, NOT ONLY did we host an incredible show from Tawiah and The Hanged Man at Ancienne Belgique - AB, but we also released the Keychange Pledge Action Plan.
I've been working with Keychange since the start of 2018, when the Keychange Pledge was launched to encourage commitment to the improvement of gender representation throughout the music industry.
Since then, more than 600 festivals, conferences, labels, orchestras, trade bodies, conservatoires, unions, publishers, PROs and beyond have taken the pledge and joined this global movement for systemic change. And I'm thrilled to share that 64% of signatories have already reported achieving or surpassing their pledge targets of at least 50% representation of women and gender expansive creators and professionals.
๐ง๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ด๐ฒ๐๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป ๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐ธ๐, which is why the next steps for the Keychange Pledge will see it expand to become more even more representative, inclusive and action-charged than ever before.
๐ข โItโs the responsibility of every single member of the music industry to insist upon and bring about urgent, progressive, lasting change. Keychange is proving that targeted action to break down the systemic and cultural barriers preventing women and gender expansive artists and professionals from entering, and succeeding in the music industry is working - so now is the time to take this even further.
From music schools and conservatories including more women and gender expansive composers in curriculums, to radio stations improving representation in playlisting and staffing, to collections societies and trade bodies increasing gender representation in their memberships, much needs to change - and now.
For this reason, weโre calling upon the entire global music community to join Keychange in taking urgent action towards a diverse, representative and sustainable music industry for all.โ
